Biography
Colm Harmon is Professor of Economics at University College Dublin (UCD) and Director of the Geary Institute (www.ucd.ie/geary). A native of Ballyfermot in Dublin, he received his BA (1991) and MA (1992) in Economics from UCD, and his PhD from the University of Keele in 1997. Colm worked at the National University of Ireland in Maynooth prior to joining UCD, and has held visiting appointments at Princeton University, University College London and the University of Warwick. With specialisms in applied econometrics particularly in the areas of health and labour research, he has published papers in journals such as the American Economic Review, Economic Journal, Economica, Economic Inquiry, Economic and Social Review, European Economic Review, Health Economics and Labour Economics. Currently Taoiseach’s (Prime Ministerial) appointment to the Irish National Economic and Social Forum, he has led a number of research projects for policy agencies and government departments in Ireland, the UK as well as the OECD and the EU Commission. He is an Associate Editor of the E-conomics and a member of the Board of the Economics of Education Review.
